Welcome to East Wood Design. These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") govern your use of our website and your purchase of any products from us, whether through our online store or our farmers market stall. By placing an order with us, you agree to these Terms.

East Wood Design Ltd is based in Mangawhai, Northland, New Zealand.

1. About Our Products

1.1 East Wood Design creates bespoke, handcrafted timber products including kitchen islands, cutting boards, furniture, and related pieces, made from timbers such as Black Walnut, White Oak, European Beech, White Ash, and American Cherry.

1.2 As each piece is handmade from natural timber, no two products are identical. Variations in grain, colour, knots, and natural markings are a feature of the material, not a defect. Product photos are a genuine representation of our work, but slight variation between the photographed item and the item you receive should be expected.

1.3 Timber is a natural material that responds to its environment. With proper care (see our Care Guide), our products are built to last, but movement, minor checking (small surface cracks), or colour change over time due to light exposure are normal characteristics of solid wood and are not considered faults.

2. Orders

2.1 Placing an order through our website constitutes an offer to purchase. We will confirm acceptance of your order by email.

2.2 We reserve the right to decline or cancel an order at our discretion (for example, if an item is no longer available, if there is a pricing error, or if we cannot fulfil a custom request), in which case we will notify you and refund any payment made.

2.3 Custom and made-to-order items: Where a product is made to your specifications (size, timber species, finish, engraving, etc.), please check all details carefully before confirming your order, as production begins shortly after order confirmation. Custom and engraved orders are not eligible for change-of-mind returns (see Section 5).

2.4 Estimated production and lead times will be provided at the time of order but are approximate. Handcrafted items, particularly larger pieces such as kitchen islands, may take longer during busy periods.

3. Pricing and Payment

3.1 All prices are listed in New Zealand dollars (NZD) and are inclusive of GST unless stated otherwise.

3.2 Payment is required in full at the time of ordering, unless a deposit arrangement has been agreed in writing for larger custom commissions.

3.3 We reserve the right to change prices at any time, but changes will not affect orders already confirmed.

4. Shipping and Delivery

4.1 We currently ship within New Zealand only. Shipping costs and estimated timeframes are shown at checkout.

4.2 Large or heavy items (such as kitchen islands and furniture) may require freight courier delivery and, in some cases, additional coordination for delivery access — we will contact you if this applies to your order.

4.3 Please inspect your item on delivery. Any damage in transit should be reported to us within 7 days of receipt, with photos, so we can arrange a resolution with the courier.

4.4 Risk in the goods passes to you on delivery. Ownership of the goods passes once payment has been received in full.

5. Returns, Refunds and Cancellations

5.1 Nothing in these Terms limits your rights under the New Zealand Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or Fair Trading Act 1986. If a product is faulty, not fit for purpose, or significantly different from its description, you are entitled to a repair, replacement, or refund as appropriate.

5.2 We do not offer change-of-mind returns or refunds. All our products are handmade to order, and we only accept returns where a product is genuinely faulty, unless we are otherwise required to do so by law.

5.3 Custom, made-to-order, and personalised/engraved items are not returnable unless the item is faulty.

5.4 To report a fault, email us at eastwooddesignnz@gmail.com with your order number, a description of the issue, and photos where possible.

6. Product Care

6.1 We provide care guidance with our chopping boards and timber products to help you look after your piece. Damage resulting from failure to follow reasonable care instructions (for example, dishwashing a timber board, prolonged water exposure, or exposure to extreme heat) is not covered as a fault.

7. Intellectual Property

7.1 All content on this website — including photographs, product designs, logos, and written content — is owned by East Wood Design Ltd and may not be reproduced or used without our written permission.

8. Limitation of Liability

8.1 To the extent permitted by law, East Wood Design Ltd's liability for any claim relating to a product is limited to the repair, replacement, or refund of that product.

8.2 We are not liable for any indirect or consequential loss arising from the use of our products, except where such liability cannot be excluded by law.

9. Privacy

9.1 Any personal information you provide to us (such as contact and delivery details) is used only to process your order and communicate with you, and is handled in accordance with the Privacy Act 2020. [Link to a separate Privacy Policy if you have one.]
